Motor tax meetings planned

9th November 2012

IMPACT is planning information meetings this month for its members in local authority motor tax departments who work on driver licensing.

The union’s Local Government division met management on 1st November and outlined its critique of a consultant’s report that argues management’s case for transferring the service from local authorities to the Road Safety Authority (RSA). A response is expected shortly.

IMPACT understands that management expects virtually all the staff concerned to remain in their current place of work, at least on an interim basis, when the transfer takes legal effect on 19th January. But the union is frustrated that no agreement has been reached on the long-term position of over 200 staff concerned.

National secretary Eamonn Donnelly has told the union’s Local Government executive that the issue was likely to end up in arbitration, under Croke Park provisions.
