EarlyImpact – Professional pay for professional work.
Because the government doesn’t invest enough, professionals teaching and caring for our youngest children are on poor wages, often without job security.
Government underinvestment in early education means everyone loses out:
- Parents pay some of the highest childcare costs in the world,
- Staffed by professionals who are amongst the lowest paid, and,
- Children have no guarantee of quality early education.
We need increased investment in early education, to reach the OECD average of 0.8% GDP within 5 years, and 1% GDP in 10 years. Investment must focus on professionalisation, higher qualifications, agreed salary scales and better working conditions.
If we value our young children’s education, we must value those who teach and care for our youngest children.
