Trade Unions representing workers at Letterkenny General Hospital have commended workers at the hospital for their response to the disastrous flooding that closed large parts of the hospital.
Donegal trade union officials from IMPACT, SIPTU and INMO issued a joint statement today (Monday), praising the “quick thinking” of staff and management to the sudden flash flooding and said that their actions had saved lives.
IMPACT official Richy Carrothers said “Staff and management are to be congratulated for continuing to deliver services under very difficult circumstances. Services are currently being prioritised while the hospital is reviewing, assessing and planning. There has been a heroic response from hospital staff and management, Gardaí, Fire Services, Army, council staff and community volunteers. Although major questions need to be answered, we should all be grateful for the unselfish response of those involved.
“We’re also reassured by the public commitments given by the Minister and health bosses to ensuring that Letterkenny General will come through these dark days and be fully reopened so that staff can get back to delivering much needed health services to the people of the North West” he said.
