IMPACT’s Save Our Forests campaign is stepping up the pace as we edge closer to a Government decision on the future of Coillte forests. More and more people are raising their voices in opposition to the proposed sale of the state forestry company’s harvesting rights.
There is a lot of interest in a briefing seminar for Oireachtas members, being hosted by the campaign in Leinster House next week. The event will feature economist Peter Bacon, whose IMPACT-commissioned report last month found no economic case for the sale of Coillte harvesting rights.
Other speakers will include Ruairí Ó Conchúir of Mountaineering Ireland, Daryl Fahy of ECC Timber Products in Galway, and IMPACT national secretary Matt Staunton. The campaign intends to follow up the Oireachtas briefing with a public seminar.
