Allowances: Important Labour Court recommendation
The Labour Court has identified principals that it says should guide decisions about the retention or abolition of allowances for serving staff. The recommendation is timely as unions and management are likely to discuss the future treatment of allowances in the current talks on a possible extension to the Croke Park agreement.
PAC says many allowances are core pay
Many public service allowances form part of core pay and many lower paid workers are dependent on allowances for a “significant proportion of take-home pay,” according to a report from the Oireachtas Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
