Tuesday 1st December 2009
We are receiving a huge amount of telephone contacts from SNA members, to the extent that it may not be possible to get back to each individual.
In an effort to deal with all the queries and concerns that members have in relation to next Thursday's strike, we are encouraging people to access the information available on this website, and if they are still unclear to make contact with their regional representatives (details below).
In general the position with the strike and picketing is as follows;
All schools, including Special Schools, are affected, and have been served with strike notice.
We are co-ordinating picketing in schools with our colleagues in ASTI, INTO and TUI. IMPACT Reps in schools should discuss arrangements with the teachers’ union rep.
In Primary schools which are closed on the day, we do not propose to mount Pickets.
If we are aware that it is proposed to have access to the school on the day for non-striking teaching or SNA staff, a picket should be held and the teachers INTO rep informed. I hope to have more information on Friday next.
Primary based SNAs from schools which are closed, should contact their local rep regarding picketing Department of Education & Science offices.
In Post-Primary/VEC schools, members should, in consultation with ASTI/TUI rep, ensure a SNA presence on any picket for as long as it is decided it is required.
Anyone wishing to join IMPACT should download an application form from this website and submit it as soon as possible. Click HERE.
School Secretaries paid from the school grant, caretakers and bus-escorts, have not been balloted for strike action on this occasion, and are therefore available for work, whether the school is open or not, and should not have wages deducted in respect of the day.
Organising a strike of this scale, in so many schools across the country is a massive undertaking. We ask for your patience and co-operation as we try to get as much information as possible to members. Click HERE for more information
