IMPACT seeks clarity on whistleblowers’ position

IMPACT wants an appropriate Government department to formally ask the Labour Relations Commission to develop a statutory code of practice to cover whistleblowing cases, where employees reveal financial or other malpractice in their workplace. Read more HERE.

IMPACT welcomes plans to streamline employment rights bodies

IMPACT has welcomed Government plans to streamline the state’s employment rights bodies. The union says the proposals should simplify the process of taking cases and make it less legalistic. A consultation process is now underway on the plans, which would see a single structure replace the five existing employment rights bodies. Read more HERE.
JLC and ERO legislation expected soon
Proposed legislation which will see a new wage-setting system for low-paid staff is expected in the coming weeks. The legislation is expected to allow employers to claim an inability to pay existing rates and will scrap Sunday premium pay for those workers covered by the Joint Labour Committees (JLCs). Council employee gets compensation for unlawful termination of fixed contract
The Labour Court has ruled against Clare County Council in a case concerning the termination of the contract of an employee after four years service. Read more HERE.
EU agency deal is a major step forward
Irish trade unions have welcomed an EU agreement on a new agency workers’ directive, which was agreed in mid-June. Once implemented, the directive will oblige employers to give staff recruited through employment agencies the same pay and working conditions as permanent staff. Read more HERE.
