IMPACT wants review of driver licensing decision

IMPACT has written to transport minister Leo Varadkar seeking a review of the Government’s decision to centralise driver licensing to a national body, the Road Safety Authority. The union in meeting with senior officials in the department today to argue the case for the retention of the service at local level. Read more HERE.
Water service submissions sought

Consultations planned on overtime and premium payments

Public service leave to be capped at 32 days

New Government proposals, which envisage no cuts in leave for the great majority of public servants, will mean that no existing public servant gets more than 32 days leave from next year. The cap, which will fall to 30 days for new entrants, would come into effect in 2012. Read more HERE.
Dublin councillors oppose waste privatisation

Dublin City councillors have overwhelmingly passed a motion opposing the city manager’s plans to outsource the waste collection service. The motion was passed after IMPACT circulated councillors with a position paper setting out the consequences of outsourcing – higher charges, the end of waivers, and risks to public safety and the environment. Dublin City Council’s proposal to outsource its waste collection service will inevitably lead to higher charges for waste collection and the end of waivers, according to IMPACT. This will lead to substantial hardship for residents, including over 37,000 of the city’s poorest families who currently qualify for waivers. Read more HERE.

Minister confirms local authority staff delivering on Croke Park

IMPACT halts imposition of longer local authority hours

IMPACT has prevented the unilateral implementation of increased working hours in local authorities after the Labour Relations Commission yesterday recommended that no change should occur before the Croke Park national implementation body had ruled on the matter. Management had previously said it would impose reduced leave and increased working hours from 1st April. Read more HERE.
LRC: Croke Park does not demand extended local government working week

The Labour Relations Commission has said the introduction of extended working week arrangements in local government – including split shifts, annualised hours or spreading five working days over a six or seven day week – are not required under the Croke park agreement. Read more HERE.
