IMPACT will have a delegation at the Dublin Pride parade in June. It’s the first time that the union has take part in the parade. Allayne Cassidy, an IMPACT rep with Dublin City branch and LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) rights activist, explained: “We’re inviting all union members and their families who wish to support and celebrate diversity with the LGBT community to join us behind the IMPACT banner at Pride on June 29th.”
The parade takes place on Saturday 29th June. The parade assembles at the Garden of Remembrance at 1pm, and commences 2pm sharp. See Dublin Pride’s website for more details. IMPACT members will meet at noon. For more details, and to register your interest to attend, please contact Eva Ndaba at Dublin City branch.
Allayne says that there has previously been a lack of visibility for LGBT employees in public service workplaces. “However in recent times there is a growing awareness of the lives of LGBT colleagues – people entering into civil partnerships and the discussion of same sex marriage in the constitutional convention has allowed for more open dialogue about LGBT issues and greater acceptance of LGBT people. This is a great opportunity for us as activists to stand up together and celebrate our differences, and show solidarity with LGBT colleagues.”
