IMPACT trade union has extended its support to Tesco workers, who are on strike from today over management’s threat to cut the pay and working conditions of 300 long-serving staff. Their union Mandate says the company could halt the industrial action by withdrawing its threat to impose changes on staff, and by attending a Labour Court hearing. The strike of indefinite duration is affecting over 70 Tesco Ireland stores.
IMPACT deputy general secretary Kevin Callinan said: “IMPACT members expressed their solidarity with Tesco staff at our biennial delegate conference last week. Many of our members in the public, private and voluntary sectors know what it’s like when employers unilaterally cut pay and working conditions, and we fully support Mandate’s members in this struggle.”
