Protect our Local Libraries

IMPACT Trade Union is against proposals to amalgamate a number of Library Services nationwide namely Cavan/Monaghan, Laois/Offaly, Longford/Westmeath, Carlow/Kilkenny, Cork City/County, and Sligo/Leitrim/Roscommon.  The proposals were first highlighted in the Bord Snip Report published in 2009 which also proposed the amalgamation of a number of County Councils and furthermore suggested County Managers could have responsibility for more than one county. While the latter two appear to be consigned to history the proposal to merge library services has surfaced again recently.
