Housing is a Human Right
Protest Saturday 28th May
Assemble 2.pm, Custom House, Custom House Quay, Dublin 1.
March to GPO.
IMPACT is supporting the National Homeless and Housing Coalition’s protest, which is calling for urgent action to tackle the homelessness crisis. You can get more information HERE.
Its protest in Dublin this Saturday (28th May) is supported by homelessness charities, along with IMPACT and other unions including SIPTU and the Irish Congress of Trade Unions.
We are calling on IMPACT members to gather at the IMPACT banner to show solidarity and demand action to address the housing and homeless crisis.
You can also support the protest on Facebook.
Last week, IMPACT’s biennial delegate conference reasserted the union’s support for urgent solutions to the homelessness crisis. The union has been campaigning on the issue since its September 2015 homelessness conference, ‘A Roof Is a Right.’ At last year’s ICTU conference, we proposed a motion that called for a range of measures to tackle the housing crisis, including the regulation of rents through an indexation system, similar to those in other European countries.
Saturday’s protest will put pressure on the new Government to implement these and other policies to deal with homelessness.
It is important that there is a strong IMPACT presence and turnout on the day to demonstrate the importance of this issue for our union.
